The short version: we don't keep personal information about you. There are no accounts, no email addresses, no advertising and no cookies, and the only things we count are how many people open the game and play it. We only hold the name you type, for the length of the game, and it's gone a few hours after the last move.
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| The name you type (any name you like, it doesn't have to be your real one), your cards and the game's score | So the game can be played with your friends | The room is unavailable 6 hours after the last move and is then deleted automatically |
| A technical connection ID for your open game screen | To send you the game's updates | Removed when you leave, and at most about 2 hours |
| Server logs: room code, seat numbers, cards played and points. No names. | To find and fix bugs | 30 days, then deleted |
To make the game work we save a few things in your browser only (they are never sent anywhere except back to the game when you play): your seat in a room so a refresh puts you back where you were, the last name you typed, your settings (sound, animations, card size and so on), and your own stats and badges (hands played and won, best bid and so on, shown under Menu → My stats). The stats never leave your device: there is no leaderboard and no account. To move them to a new phone you copy a save code yourself. They are not cookies and nothing here tracks you. Menu → "Forget my data on this device" removes all of it in one tap.
To see how many people open the game, and roughly from where they arrive (for example from a WhatsApp link), the game pages use Google Analytics, set up to be as anonymous as it goes: it uses no cookies and saves nothing in your browser, so it can't recognise you from one visit to the next; advertising features and Google signals are off; and it receives only the address of the page you opened without the part after the question mark (so never a room code or a seat link's secret code) and where you came from. Besides opening the game, it is told only that something happened, with a number or two, when: a table is made or joined (and with how many seats), a game starts (with how many people and bots), a hand or a match finishes (and whether your side won), the Daily Deal is started or finished, a share button is used (which kind), or you leave a table. It never receives your name, a room code, your cards or anything you type. If you arrive through a link tagged with where it was shared (for example from WhatsApp), that label is counted too. Google Analytics doesn't log or keep IP addresses, though, like any website you load, your browser does contact Google to fetch the counter. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, the counter is not loaded at all. This page itself never runs it.
The game runs on Amazon Web Services in the US (Oregon). Rooms and logs are stored there, so if you play from Europe your game data is processed in the US.
"Share summary", "Share the match" and "Share my result" build a short text (names, hands won, a Daily Deal score) on your own device; "Share my score" also draws a picture of your Daily Deal score on your device. It only goes where you choose to send it, nothing is uploaded. "Share invite" opens your phone's share sheet with a picture of the invitation and the link; nothing is sent until you choose where to send it. Rejoin links work once, for 15 minutes.
We don't ask anyone's age and we collect no contact details. Please use a nickname rather than a real name, especially for young players.
Because we don't keep accounts or contact details, we usually can't tell who a name belongs to, and the data expires on its own. If you'd like to ask what we hold, have something removed sooner, or have any privacy question, write to hi@metamug.com with your room code and name, and we'll help. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority.
